Don’t know if i mentioned this, but my 462 professor decided to switch servers on us last week. it was totally lame, forcing us to move from fedora to windows, using IIS. I didn’t move any files b/c
- The machine didn’t let me log in due to permission issues
- I don’t trust windows web servers
Anyways, i was sitting in 462 today, and decided to log into the new server. But i noticed the permissions were a little off. So i decided to go browsing, and looking in this folder, and that folder. Holy crap windows was letting me move all over the place. Guess what i found…
The root password for MySQL … and i think i screwed up some permissions too b/c it let me run some random VBS scripts i saw laying around. Anyways, after class i took my laptop up to the professor and showed him what was up. Yeah yeah yeah, i know. I gave in. But he was like “Oh crap”. He said he would tell the admin, and then he sent this email:
Dear all,
The IIS web server is taken down due to security issues. You may still access your databases through command line intefaces. Please backup your databases so that no data will be lost. You can use mysqldump to backup your database into a file.
I am not sure when the system will be up again. I will update you when it is ready. In the meantime, you can work on boole.cs.clemson.edu for your project.
Sorry for the inconventience.
Dr. Wang
