Don’t know if i mentioned this, but my 462 professor decided to switch servers on us last week. it was totally lame, forcing us to move from fedora to windows, using IIS. I didn’t move any files b/c
- The machine didn’t let me log in due to permission issues
- I don’t trust windows web servers
Anyways, i was sitting in 462 today, and decided to log into the new server. But i noticed the permissions were a little off. So i decided to go browsing, and looking in this folder, and that folder. Holy crap windows was letting me move all over the place. Guess what i found…
The root password for MySQL … and i think i screwed up some permissions too b/c it let me run some random VBS scripts i saw laying around. Anyways, after class i took my laptop up to the professor and showed him what was up. Yeah yeah yeah, i know. I gave in. But he was like “Oh crap”. He said he would tell the admin, and then he sent this email:
Dear all,
The IIS web server is taken down due to security issues. You may still access your databases through command line intefaces. Please backup your databases so that no data will be lost. You can use mysqldump to backup your database into a file.
I am not sure when the system will be up again. I will update you when it is ready. In the meantime, you can work on boole.cs.clemson.edu for your project.
Sorry for the inconventience.
Dr. Wang
LMAO, I caused a “security issue” omg this is so great! LMAO…*cries* omg …the day …is perfect <3
I’ve implemented a new spam catch on my comments today. I don’t get too much (I love you akismet) but I wanted to try and reduce it anyways. You shouldn’t notice anything at all, just the little spam people will have one less blog to annoy.
I’m siting in my room taking a break from life and i’m rocking out to some lovely Paramore, here i’ll give their myspace a plug:
http://www.myspace.com/paramore
Jmo and I started listening to them about a year and a half ago. We were competing. Trying to find the most random bands we could find, whoever picked the band we liked the best “won”. Sort of. In the end we just found wonderful bands to listen to. So I found Paramore and listened to like..3 songs off the web. But 3 songs doesn’t cut it. How did i find out what they sounded like? I downloaded their album. The whole thing. No DRM. OMG WHAT?! Yes it’s true. A band who i’ve downloaded and passed around to all my friends, is now getting mass press and i’m sure starting to make some mad money. At least Radiohead and NIN figured out what to do. Leave the RIAA. To put it best, i’ll quote someone about Radiohead’s latest album
Unkown: It’s weird, now that I don’t have to pay anything for the music I suddenly feel like paying.
I support music and the artists that make it. Go download an album today.
makes me smile every minute of the day
Sitting in class and i’m not paying a bit of attention. I saw some Ethernet cable for $2.99 and added them to my cart. Newegg said that i could only order 9, so i said “Crap they only have nine” but then the teacher said “Remember you only have 9 of them”…i just thought it was creepy.
